Welcome to the Web Site of the 2009 Francelia Butler Conference!

This year’s theme is fairy tales, so be ready to go Into the Woods...Out of the Ordinary at Hollins this summer!

Our one-day conference runs on Saturday, July 25th, 2009, at the Richard Wetherill Visual Arts Centre, and our keynote speaker is Professor Maria Tatar of Harvard University. Throughout the day, M.A. and M.F.A. students in Hollins’s graduate programs in children’s literature present critical and creative papers, with the top piece in each category awarded the Shirley Henn award. But that’s not all: be sure not to miss the Art Show displaying student talent, and put your bids on the Silent Auction in the foyer to raise funds for future conferences. We have a dedicated core of committee chairs working hard to make this a fun conference for us all, but of course, this conference can’t happen without volunteers like you. Click on the links on the menu bar to learn more about how you can help out, read the rules for submitting creative pieces and critical papers, or find out more about our distinguished panel of judges.

Thanks for visiting this site, and we look forward to seeing you in the summer!
